We are committed to reconciliation with our Indigenous sisters and brothers.<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/section>\n\t\t\t\t In 2016 we hosted\u00a0Resetting the Relationship<\/strong>, a\u00a0conference designed to help us on the way forward.\u00a0We are grateful to our\u00a0Indigenous speakers<\/strong>\u00a0who, out of love and their desire for reconciliation,\u00a0shared with us firsthand<\/strong>\u00a0of their experiences and their perspectives.<\/span><\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t The Truth and Reconciliation Commission hearings also gave birth to\u00a094 Calls to Action.\u00a0<\/strong>Some of them deal directly with\u00a0Canadian churches<\/strong>\u00a0and faith bodies.\u00a0We were grateful to hear the response of Baptists, nationally and regionally.\u00a0<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/section>\n\t\t\t\t We are\u00a0deeply concerned<\/strong>\u00a0about First Nations and our relationship with them. We acknowledge that they were in North America long before it was “discovered” by Europeans.<\/p> In Canada our treatment of indigenous peoples has been\u00a0clouded with prejudice<\/strong>\u00a0over many centuries of history. They have been viewed as a lesser breed, and not worthy of the benefits we as Canadians take for granted. We have\u00a0reneged on our treaty arrangements<\/strong>\u00a0and in every respect, they have become the\u00a0\u201cinconvenient Indian.\u201d<\/strong><\/em><\/span><\/p> There are\u00a0issues of justice<\/strong>\u00a0and what it means to\u00a0love our neighbour<\/strong>. Our misunderstandings run very deep and the way forward will take much\u00a0effort, compassion and right thinking.<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/section>\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":" Reconciliation We are committed to reconciliation with our Indigenous sisters and brothers.
